It wasn’t until recently, when I really started to find my groove as a momma of a full household, that I became so interested in essential oils. It had been years of seeing them all over Pinterest. Years of wondering just how well they could benefit my home. So what finally pushed me to invest in my very own oil collection? The purchase of our very first home. It seemed like the absolute best time for a fresh start! A time to replace all of the toxins and chemicals in common household items, with naturally derived, oil-based products. It was then that I was more eager than ever to give them a try.
How many times have you seen awesome women post about Young Living and how much goodness it brings their lives? How many times did I, too, fly by those same posts and doubt just how well oils could support my family? How much do I kick myself in the butt for passing up amazing products for so long? So much. But it doesn’t matter how soon or how quickly you swap out chemicals for oils. It only matters that you do.
But more than just ridding my home of chemicals, there were a few health reasons why I eagerly wanted to give oils a shot. We had been dealing with Ava’s congestion for quite some time, whether it was flu season, allergy season, or teething time. My husband suffers from allergies almost year-round, too. And I had read just how well peppermint and eucalyptus oils can help support and ease sinus and chest congestion. So when I received peppermint oil in my Starter Kit, I was extremely hopeful. And of course, this oil certainly hasn’t let me down, both in the diffuser and packed away in a homemade chest rub!
In fact, I remember the very first time I tried an essential oil. Back when my four-year-old was a tiny tot we had discovered that general sunscreen lotion caused his skin to break out into tiny red bumps. I wanted to avoid the use of Benadryl, everyone’s go-to for anything rash-related. That’s when I came across tea tree oil and it’s use for skin ailments. That evening I picked up a bottle at our nearest drugstore, therapeutic-grade is important! I put three drops on a cotton ball and placed it in his bath water. Within just a few hours the redness had softened and the irritation and itching had eased. I can’t believe our first oil success was that long ago!
My biggest hope in trying out Young Living’s oils was bedtime with my babies. I’ll tell you, my four-year-old is something like a vampire considering he doesn’t actually require sleep. I mean, that kid can stay up FAR past my bedtime expiration (and he has many many times at Nana’s house). His energy never ends, and man do I envy that. But between his restlessness and my baby girl occasionally waking up from a sore tooth, we needed some sleep support. Cue the lavender oil. You’ve smelt it a million times in soaps and lotions. You’ve savored the aroma from a great candle. But you haven’t seen it at its best if you have never applied to the feet of little ones for a sleepy bedtime tone.
The health benefits are countless. And while I’ll be introducing them into my house slowly but surely, I’m also excited about more than just the YL oils. Their Thieves cleaning line is also high on my suggestion list! Young Living has so many options for swapping chemical-filled cleaning products with natural, fresh, and safe alternatives. And this surface cleaner covers almost every room in my house. I never have to worry about leftover chemicals lingering in their bath water or on the bottoms of their dinner plates. The comfort Thieves Cleaner gives me is irreplaceable.
But the best is yet to come! Down below I have a super cute, super easy graphic that gives you tons of everyday uses for seven essential oils you receive in any YL starter kit.
This is a small peek at why I turned to essential oils. An even smaller peek at how they won me over as soon as I hopped on board. Really, just a few oil success stories with a few of my very first attempts. But put most simply, I wanted less harm and more health. Less danger and more comfort. You may think the “good stuff” costs more, but a few drops of each oil goes far! And many of these little oil bottles last me a few months at a time. Start your journey momma, your family with thank you later!

I just started using oils and I’m enjoying it. I’m researching different combinations to use on the family.
It’s a lot of info to take in, I’m trying to pace myself and enjoy the learning process!
